-Let x be the seats in the small van and y the
seats in the large van. How many seats does the
larger van have?

from the question we get that,

y = x + 9

therefore,

with the second part of the question,

=> x + y = 69,

=> x + ( x + 9) = 69

=> 2x = 60

=> x = 30
