y=x-4......................(11)

Subtract (11) from (1)

y-y=3x-x+2-(-4)

0=2x+2+4

0=2x+6

Collect like terms

0-6=2x

-6=2x

Divide both sides by 2

-6/2=2x/2

x=-3
