Explanation:

Degree of a monomial is nothing but the sum of values of powers of the variables in given expression

1)4x²

DEGREE=2

2) 6abc= 6a¹b¹c¹

DEGREE=1+1+1=3

3) 2xy=2x¹y¹

DEGREE=1+1=2

4)a²b²

DEGREE=2+2=4

5) xyz³=x¹y¹z³

DEGREE=1+1+3=5

I hope it helped you

Answer:

1. 2

2. 3

3. 2

4. 4

5. 5

Explanation:

The dregree is related to the exponent.

Every problem you have 1-5 shows a monomial. A monomial is a sinlge number, or a number multiplied by 1 or more variables.

The degree of a monomial is the sum of the exponents of all the variables of the monomial.

A variable is a letter. In these 5 problems, the variables are a, b, c, x, y, z.

If a variable has no exponent written, then its exponent is 1.

1. 4x²

There is one variable. The exponent on the variable is 2. The degree is 2.

2. 6abc

There are 3 variables, a, b, and c. Each variable has exponent 1 even though we do not write the 1. This expression is the same as 6a^1b^1c^1. Add the exponents: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3. The degree is 3.

3. 2xy

Rewrite, or think of it as, 2x^1y^1. Add the expoenents: 1 + 1 = 2. The degree is 2.

4. a²b²

Add the exponents: 2 + 2 = 4. The degreee is 4.

5. xyz³

Rewrite as or think of it as: x^1y^1z³. The sum of the exponents is 1 + 1 + 3 = 5. The degree is 5.
