Suppose triangle ABC is dilated with center (0,0) and scale factor 0.25, and the resulting image is then reflected in the x-axis to make triangle PQR. What are the coordinates of point P?

Coordinate of P, after the sequence of transformation is

(-1.25, -1)

How to find the coordinate of P

To find the coordinate of P we first establish that P is in corresponding position with A

Coordinate of A is (-5, 4)

Dilation by 0.25 will result to (-5 * 0.25, 4 * 0.25) → (-1.25, 1)

Reflection over the x-axis is done as follows

(-1.25, 1) → (-1.25, -1)

Answer:

Option (2). (-1.25, -1)

Explanation:

Rule for the dilation of ΔABC with center (0, 0) and a scale factor of 0.25,

(x, y) → (0.25x, 0.25y)

Then reflected in the x-axis,

(0.25x, 0.25y) → (0.25x, -0.25y)

Coordinates of point A from the given graph are (-5, 4)

After transformation, coordinates of the point will be,

A(-5, 4) → P(-1.25, -1)

Therefore, after transformation coordinates of the point A will be P(-1.25, -1).

Option 2 will be the answer.
