The football team is selling t-shirts to raise money for new equipment. The cost of each t-shirt is $2.50 and the t-shirt company charges a print fee of $25. The team will sell shirts for $12 each. Consider the following functions below that represent the cost, C(x), and revenue, R(x), of shirts sold.

C(x) = 2.5x +25

R(x) = 12x

Write an equation that best represents the profit function of how much the basketball team will make?

Answer: P (x) = 9.5 x -25

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to write a profit function with the information given.

Profit is equal to: Revenue - Cost.

Replacing with the equations given:

P(x) = R (x) - C (x) = 12x -(2.5x +25)

Adding alike terms (x) and simplifying:

P(x)= 12x -2.5x -25

P (x) = 9.5 x -25
