The battle of edge hill ended with King Charles I resuming his march back to London, due to the fact that he was not strong enough to overcome the milita defense presented by Earl of Essex (lord fielding). He was outnumbered with 13,000 men by his side and 15,000 at hand. This result ended with the Battle of Edge hill prevented either side from gaining a victory quickly during the war due to the determination of both sides. This would let the battle of Edge hill continue as it did last, but continue for four years more.
