Mutation is when there is a change in the DNA of a living creature. Some mutations can render a creature inviable by removing its ability to achieve homeostasis, which others can bring a much needed trait to a creature. Some are just mildly annoying or don't really change anything for a creature.

Mutations introduce traits that can cause the individual to be selected/ or prevent from its selection from its environment, therefore contributing to evolution.

A frameshift mutation is a genetic mutation caused by a deletion or insertion in a DNA sequence that shifts the way the sequence is read.

The two main categores of mutations that occur in humans are: Point mutations and chromosomal mutations. Point mutations include frameshift mutations and substitution, while chromosomal mutations affect an entire chromosome.
