im gonna assume you are solving for x, the equation (x + 3)2 = 49 x is equal to 21.5 or 21 and 1/2. however the rest aren’t equations they’re just x = number and there isn’t much to do with that

Answer:

x = 4 and x = -10

Explanation:

expand the squared brackets

(x +3) (x+3) = 49

Distribute them

x^2 + 3x +3x +9 = 49

bring the 49 to the other side to make one side 0, make sure to change signs

x^2 + 3x +3x +9 - 49 = 0

combine like terms

x^2 + 6x -40 = 0

factor what numbers multiply to get -40 that also add/subtract to get +6

(x - 4) (x + 10)

turn it into an equation to get the answer to x

x - 4 = 0 x + 10 = 0

x = 4 x = -10
