xⁿ where x is the base and n is the exponent.

Exponents are number of bases that are multiplied. If a number is raised to the second power (squared), two numbers are multiplied (2 × 2). If a number is raised to the third power (cubed), three numbers are multiplied (2 × 2 × 2). If a number is raised to the first power, one number is multiplied (2).

Exponents aren't as hard as the picture is making it look like. When you are solving a problem with exponents it's best not to pull them apart like the example shows.

When multiplying exponents with the same base, the exponents are added.

When dividing exponents with the same base, the exponents are subtracted.

When raising a number with an exponent to another the exponent, exponents are multiplied.
