What the author means that, in the society, most people who have created a perfect image of non-blemishness in their life is not worried about the reality that people are bound to err in one way or the other. They are more interested in showing an unrealistic image of perfection in their lives.

For example, some actors who are married engages in domestic violence towards their wifes but would come out publicly to smile and preach against the very thing they are engaged in.

Same goes to those involved in drug abuse even though they were made ambassadors of organizations working towards a drug-free society.
