He developed vaccines for chicken cholera and anthrax. In 1885 he vaccinated a nine year old boy who had been bitten by a rabid dog and helped usher in the practice of preventive medicine.

Virulence: Pasteur was the first scientist to recognize that virulence could be increased as well as decrease.
