When were pencils first used?

- What is graphite?
- What is an HB pencil?
- What happens when the H# is increased?

The first pencil was used in 1662.

When the H# number increases, the pencils will fee “harder” and your strokes will be lighter not as smooth, and dark as the B# pencils. It’s good for light strokes, very light shading, and detailed air.

HB pencil is the pencil that is in the middle of The B (which are smooth and dark) and the H (which is rough and light), it’s the pencil schools use for writing.

graphite is a crystalline form of the element carbon with its atoms arranged in a hexagonal structure.

The HB graphite grading scale is used to determine the hardness and the darkness of pencils. The 'H' in the HB scale stands for hardness. The higher the number next to the 'H', the harder the pencil lead inside is.

hope these helped :)
