The junior class has 50 students. Twenty-five students take only French, 15 take only Latin, and 10 take both. If a student

chosen at random from the class, what is the probability that the student chosen takes neither French nor Latin?

You have to draw a Venn diagram. Draw two circles that intersect. In the left circle put French with its 25 students. Use a colored pencil if you have one. Pick up another colored pencil and put 15 in the right circle.

Now use a third pencil to put in the intersection area. Label it 10 and write both.

What you see is 25 on the left, 10 in the middle and 15 on the right.

Now you add the 3 numbers together. They equal 50. There is no one left over who takes nothing.

The probability is zero. Everybody is taking some thing.
