Beth has lived with her loser boyfriend for six years, when he finally gets around to proposing to her. But he does it right, with a surprise romantic proposal and an engagement ring that makes Beth walk crooked (because it is so heavy). Beth is ecstatic about being engaged, but she is also a bit suspicious about how her loser boyfriend managed to afford such a ring. Surely it is fake. So she takes it to a local jewelry store in the mall to have it appraised. The store is really busy, but the clerk tells her he will have the appraisal completed for Beth in an hour. So Beth goes shopping for shoes. When she returns to pick up the ring, she receives an appraisal for $25,000 (the ring was real), but no ring. It turns out that her ring was mistakenly sold to Steven, who used it to propose to his beautiful, beloved bride to be, Martha. Beth wants the ring back, but Martha doesn’t want to give it up. Who should get the ring? Why?
