How effective is the Internet, a form of mass media, as an agent of socialization?

I don't believe there is a simple, direct answer. One could compose a debate on each end. For example, I find it fair to say that the internet has provided us with a resource to listen, respond, and communicate with people all across the world in a manner we never had the potential to before- therefor broadening our communication. On the other hand, one could also say that the time we spend using the internet distracts and distances us from those physically present around us, therefor limiting our communication. Answer: The internet connects people all over the world. Chat rooms help people socialize more than face book or instagram where you just like something and then keep scrolling. They give tyou the chance of getting to know the person. Instagram and Face book someone might message you about something and you might become friends. So the internet is helpful with socializing but it depends on what forms of social media.
