Which has the lesser inertia – a speeding bullet, or an air plane sitting on a runway (hint: inertia is dependent on mass, not velocity – many of you chose the fastball in last week’s do now – the correct answer was the car! Why? – because the car has the greater mass)?

Answer:

Inertia is defined as the resistance of the object to any change in its motion which may also include a change in the direction.

It is also defined the property of matter that involves it continuing in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless an external force is applied to change the state.

The jet airplane sitting on a runway will have greater inertia then a speeding car due to its larger mass.
