1. Maine entered as a free state and Missouri as a slave state.
2.It banned slavery in the former Louisiana territory north of the parallel 36 degrees 30’. South of this line excluding Missouri, slavery was allowed.
3. Dred Scott originally lived in St. Louis, Missouri and then moved to Virginia.
4. The court ruled African Americans were not allowed to sue in court because they claimed that they were only “property” and should not have the ability to either become citizens or sue in court.
