Let the two numbers be x and y respectively
CaseI
x+y=49
or,x=49-y
Case II
x-y=1/2
or,49-y-y=1/2(from case I)
or,49-2y=1/2
or,49-1/2=2y
or,(49*2-1)/2=2y
or,97/2=2y
or,48.5=2y
or,48.5/2=y
Y=24.25
Now,
X=49-y
or,x=49-24.25
X=24.75
