Susan put blue tiles, green tiles, and yellow tiles into a bag. All the tiles are the same size and shape. Susan will select one tile from the bag without looking, record its color, and then put the tile back into the bag. She will repeat this experiment 240 times. Based on the number of tiles of each color in the bag, Susan predicted the results shown in the frequency table below.

Answer:

a. 80 times

b. Therefore we have 6 Blue tiles , 2 Green tiles and 4 Yellow tiles .

Explanation:

Probablity = Number of possible outcomes ÷ Number of events.

a) Based on the table, what is the best prediction for the number of times Susan will select a yellow tile from the bag? Show or explain how you got your answer.

A total of 12 tiles are in the bag.

From the attached diagram, we can see that the table.

We have blue , green and yellow tiles.

Their number of frequency is given as:

Blue tiles = 120 times

Green tiles = 40 times

Total number of times is given in the question as 240 times

Therefore, total number of times for the Yellow tiles =

Total number of time - ( Frequency of the blue tiles + Frequency of the green tiles)

= 240 times - ( 120 times +40 times)

= 240 times - 160 times

= 80 times.

Therefore, the best prediction for the number of times Susan will select a yellow tile from the bag is 80 times.

b) Based on the table, determine the number of blue tiles, the number of green tiles, and the number of yellow tiles that are in Susan’s bag. Show or explain how you got each of your answers.

The number of times for each colour is going to be calculated as:

(Frequency of the tiles ÷ Total of times or The total frequency of the tiles) × Total number of tiles.

1. For the Blue tiles

= (120 times ÷ 240 times) × 12 = 6 Blue tiles.

2. For the green tiles

= (40 times ÷ 240 times) × 12 = 2 green tiles

3. For the Yellow tiles

= (80 times ÷ 240 times) × 12 = 4 Yellow tiles.

Therefore, we have: 6 Blue tiles, 2 green tiles and 4 Yellow tiles in the bag.
