A car consumes 9.6 gallons of gasoline during a 336−mile trip.

​Write a proportion that can be used to find m , the number of miles that the ​car can travel using 24 gallons of gasoline if the car consumes gasoline ​at the same rate consumed during the trip.

During a 336-mile trip the car consumes 9.6 gallons of gasoline.

During a m-mile trip the car consumes 24 gallons of gasoline.

When the number of miles increases, the number of gallons of gasoline also increases. The car consumes gasoline at the same rate, so the ratio of miles to gallons is constant. The proportion is:

336/9.6= m/24
