A 10-kg medicine ball is thrown at a velocity of 15 m/s to a 65-kg person who is at rest on ice. The

person catches the ball and subsequently slides with the ball across the ice. Determine the velocity of

Answer:

2 m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Conservation of momentum:

momentum after catch = momentum of system before catch

before catch . momentum = 10 kg * 15 m/s = 150 kg-m/s

after catch m = 65 + 10 = 75 kg

75 kg * v = 150 kg-m/s

v = 2 m/s
