x=3 and y=5

Explanation:

simply multiply one of the equations by -1 so -1(x-4y=-17)

so then 9x-4y=7 plus -x+4y=17 and you eliminate the y variable to get 8x=24

so x=3 then plug it in to get y

9(3)-4y=7

27-4y=7

-4y=-20

so y=5
