Explanation:

Circumference of a circle = π × d / 2 × π × r

Since this is half a circle, semicircle, we would need half that answer. We have the diameter but we need to half that to find the radius of a circle so 3 ÷ 2 = 1.5 . The radius is 1.5 ft so now we can work out the circumference

Circumference of circle = 2 × π × r

Circumference of circle = 2 × π × 1.5

Circumference of circle = 3π

But we need to half that since we have half a circle so 3π ÷ 2 = 1.5π

So 1.5π is just the circumference of the semicircle excluding the diameter so we need to add the diameter on to 1.5π so

1.5π + 3 = 7.71 ft
