Black lives matter is a political and social movement originating among African Americans, emphasizing basic human rights and equality. Black lives matter started in 2013 when people started using the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on social media after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin in February 2012 because black people weren't being treated the same. It started because Black people were being treated differently and right now everyone should be treated the same. The year is 2020 and people still act like it's the 1900s!
The purpose of Black Lives Matter is to spread awareness and to make a change for equality. The sad thing is that Black Lives Matter doesn't affect any social class, age, etc, it only affects your skin color which is very sad because no one can control their skin color, so it affects African Americans and people who are dark skin. It isn't only happening in America, protests are happening all over the world like the UK, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Canada, Palestine, Syria, and other places, but it's mostly happening in America.
