Explanation:

[1] Retail price means we will take the 150% markup, but take off the 50% discount

-> $1,200 * 2 = $2,400

-> 50% is 1/2, so we can multiply it by 2 to solve for the price

[2] Now that we have $2,400, we want to see what the price was before the 150% markup.

-> 150% / 100 = 1.5

-> $2,400 / 1.5 = $1,600

-> We can divide the value by the markup percent (as a decimal) to find the original value
