Which best explains why the United States sent military aid to Vietnam in the 1950s?

I’m pretty sure this might be a multiple choice answer. But due to not much context, the reason why America sent troops to Vietnam was because of communism. The US was afraid that communism would spread to South Vietnam and the rest of Asia, so they decided to aid South Vietnam in their battle between North Vietnam.
