Feedback that expresses only a personal preference is nonconstructive.
What should effective feedback look like?
- State the purpose of your feedback
- Describe what you have observed and your reaction. Clearly identify the action or event and how it makes you or other members feel.
- Give the individual an opportunity to respond
- Offer specific suggestions or solutions
When people give feedback based on personal preference it has no basis and foundation because feedback must only be given as a way to coach someone and to point out flaws that are actual flaws, not ones that don't fit one's preference.
Hope that helps!
