Answer:

the battle of stalingrad.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the Battle of Stalingrad, Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in Southern Russia. Germany was defeated ,because on 19 November, the Red Army launched Operation Uranus, a two-pronged attack targeting the weaker Romanian and Hungarian armies protecting the 6th Army's flanks. The Axis forces on the flanks were overrun and the 6th Army was cut off and surrounded in the Stalingrad area. Adolf Hitler ordered that the 6th Army make no attempt to break out; instead, attempts were made to supply it by air and to break the encirclement from the outside. Heavy fighting continued for another two months. At the beginning of February 1943, the Axis forces in Stalingrad, having exhausted their ammunition and food, surrendered after five months, one week and three days of fighting.

Answer:

The Battle of Stalingrad

Step-by-step explanation:

The Battle of Stalingrad was an armed conflict between the Red Army of the Soviet Union and the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany, in the context of the German invasion of the USSR during World War II, for the control of the Soviet city of Stalingrad. With more than 2 million casualties in total, this battle is considered the bloodiest battle in the history of humanity. It lasted six months, from August 1942 until February 1943. The grave defeat suffered by the Nazi army in this battle was a turning point for the posterior development of the war and it represents the beginning of the end of Nazism in Europe. The Wehrmacht would never fully recover from this defeat and it would never accomplish another strategical victory in the Eastern front.
