Considering that each unit as 1 square unit, to get the area, you have to divide the figure to a rectangle and a triangle.

To find the area of a rectangle, you have to multiply length * width, so

8 * 3 = 24

To find the area of a triangle, you have to multiply length * width and then divide by 2, so

3 * 3 = 9

9/2 = 4.5

To find the area of the entire figure, you have to add the area of those two, so

24 + 4.5 = 28.5
