Substitute y = 3x-8 in equation (ii)

3x - 8= 4 - x {Add x to both sides}

3x - 8 + x = 4 - x +x

4x - 8 = 4 {Add 8 to both sides}

4x = 4 + 8

4x = 12 {Divide both sides by 4}

x = 12/4

x = 3

Substitute x = 3 in Equation (i)

y = 3*3 - 8

y = 9 - 8

y = 1
