$(2x)/(a)+(y)/(b)=2 ---------(i)\\\\(x)/(a)-(y)/(b)=4-------------(ii)\\\\$

Add the equations. So, y/b will be eliminated.

$(3x)/(a)=6\\\\x=6*(a)/(3)\\\\x=2a\\\\$

x= 2a

Substitute x = 2a in equation((i)

$(2*2a)/(a)+(y)/(b)=2\\\\4+(y)/(b)=2\\\\(y)/(b)=2-4\\\\(y)/(b)=-2\\\\y=-2b$

y = - 2b
