if during DNA replication there was an incorrect pairing of the nitrogenous base pairs, leading to a possible change in the code, what might happen? would the cell die? would an incorrect protein be made and kill the organism? are there check balances to prevent this from happening?

. DNA replication is a highly accurate process, but mistakes can occasionally occur as when a DNA polymerase inserts a wrong base. Uncorrected mistakes may sometimes lead to serious consequences, such as cancer. ... Mutations: In this interactive, you can “edit” a DNA strand and cause a mutation.
