When you have a negative exponent, you move the base with the negative exponent to the other side of the fraction to make the exponent positive.

For example:

x^(-3) or
(x^(-3))/(1) =(1)/(x^3)

(1)/(y^(-2)) =(y^2)/(1) or
y^2

2^(-3)=(1)/(2^3) =(1)/(8)

#1:
2^5=2*2*2*2*2=32

#2.
2^(-4) Make the exponent positive
(1)/(2^4) =(1)/(2*2*2*2) =(1)/(16)

#3:
5^(-2) Make the exponent positive
(1)/(5^2) =(1)/(5*5) =(1)/(25)

#4.
5^3=5*5*5=125
