In rhombus EFGH below, EF= 13m and DG = 5m, Find the area of the rhombus.

Explanation:

DG is a half diagonal and it intersects with the other diagonal at 90°. So it forms a right angle triangle. Using Pythagoras theorem

13^2-5^2=d^2

169-25=d^2

144=d^2

d=√144

d=12

so the other half diagonal is 12m

the two diagonals will be 2×5 and 2×12

the two diagonals will be 10m and 24m

area of a rhombus=1/2d1d2

area of the rhombus= 1/2×10×24

area of the rhombus=120 square meters
