A can of whipped cream is a cylinder 3.5 inches in diameter and 5.25 inches high with a round top that is 1/2 of a sphere. If the contents are 1/2 compressed gas and 1/2 cream, what is the volume of whipped cream in the can?

Explanation:

The volume of the cylinder is (3.5/2)^2(5.25)(pi) = 16.078125pi

The volume of the hemisphere is (1/2)(4/3)(3.5/2)^3(pi) = 3.57291666667pi

You add them together to find the volume of the can: 19.6510416667pi

Multiply that by 1/2 to find the volume of the whipped cream:

9.82552083333pi = 30.8677840677
