Todd and his family went out to eat. The meal cost $126. There was 8.5% tax added on after this and then Todd left a 20% tip on the meal (before tax). How much did he spend in total?

Answer:

The gratuity is about 20% of $40, which is $8. The tax is about 10% of $40, which is $4. So, the total cost is about $40 + $8 + $4 = $52.

Answer:

$161.91

Explanation:

Todd and his family went out to eat. The meal cost $126.

There was 8.5% tax added on after this. Hence, the tax added will be:

(8.5)/(100) * 126 = $10.71

The tax added on was $10.71

Todd left a 20% tip on the meal (before tax). Hence, the tip he left will be:

(20)/(100) * 126 = $25.20

He left a tip of $25.20

The total amount of money he spent will be:

$126 + $10.71 + $25.20 = $161.91

He spent $161.91 in total.
