(when working on a report for class, Catrinaś read that a women over the age of 40 can lose approximately 0.06 centimeters of height per year.)

a.Catrinaś aunt Nancy is 40 years old and is 5 feet 7 inches tall. Assuming her height decreases at this rat after the age 40, about how tall will she be at age 65? ( remember that 1 inch= 2.54 centimeters.)

b. Catrinaś 90-year-old grandmother is 5 feet 1 inch tall. Assuming her grandmotherś height has also decreased at this rate, about how tall was she at the age 40? Explain your reasoning.

a. The years between 65 and 40 is

65-40 = 25 years

Multiply the decrease by the number of years

.06 *25 = 1.5 cm decrease

Change to inches

1.5 cm * 1 inch/2.54 cm =.59 inches

She will decrease .59 inches

5 ft 7 inches - .59 inches

5 ft 6.41 inches

b 90 years - 40 years = 50 years

50 * .06 =3 cm

Change to inches

3 cm * 1 inch/2.54 cm =1.18 inches

She will decrease 1.18 inches

Add this to her height now to get her height at 40

5 ft 1 inch + 1.18 inches = 5 ft 2.18 inches
