3x+y=7

-2x+y=-3

You can add 2x to both sides of the second equation to be left with:

y=2x-3

You can now substitute this into the first equation:

3x+(2x-3)=7

5x-3=7

5x=10

x=2

To find y, you can simply plug x back into any of the equations:

3x+y=7

3(2)+y=7

6+y=7

y=1
