Please help asap! "Night" text by Elie Wiesel

While watching the first hanging Elie says the following: “The thousands who had died daily at Auschwitz and at Birkenau in the crematory ovens no longer troubled me. But this one, leaning against his gallows - he overwhelmed me.” Explain why the death of thousands did not trouble him, but this one death overwhelmed him.
