Depending on the number of the a or b value, the graph can be completely altered! In a standard exponential function, the b value is 2

An exponential function with both an a and a B value looks like this:


f(x) = a(b)^x\\

The a value is the starting point of the exponential function. Not all function will have starting points, mind you! The a value can be negative or positive, which would affect the point which the graph of the exponential function starts.

The b value is like the 'rate of change' for the exponential function. It can also be positive or negative -- depending on the sign of the b value, the function can decrease of increase.
