A triangle has sides with lengths of 65 yards, 16 yards, and 63 yards. Is it a right triangle?

yes bc the smallest 2 sides added together is greater than the larger one

We know that right triangles follow the Pythagorean Theorem, where


a^(2) + b^(2) = c^(2)

So we will put our side lengths into this formula, keeping in mind that c = the hypotenuse, which is the longest side. a and b are fairly arbitrary.


16^(2) + 63^(2) = 65^(2)

If this works, we know it's a right triangle.

256 + 3969 = 4225

4225 = 4225

It worked! It's a right triangle!!
