5x² - x - 3

Explanation:

note that (f - g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)

f(x) - g(x)

= 5x² - 2 - (x + 1) ← distribute

= 5x² - 2 - x - 1 ← collect like terms

= 5x² - x - 3
