x=9/2

Simplify both sides of the equation


1/2x+2=x+-1/4

Subtract x from both sides


1/2x+2-x=x+-1/4-x\\-1/2x+2=-1/4

Subtract 2 from both sides


-1/2x+2-2=-1/4-2\\-1/2x=-9/4

Multiply both sides by 2/(-1)


(2/-1)*(-1/2x)=(2/-1)*(-9/4)\\x=9/2
