When a voltage is applied to a conductor or semiconductor, electric current starts flowing. In conductors, positively charged protons are held in a fixed position and the negatively charged electrons move from one place to another place by carrying the charge

Electric current can be generated by moving a metal wire through a magnetic field. It is also different than static electricity, which is the accumulation of charges on a surface. Electric generators rotate a coil of wires through a magnetic field.
