5k + 17

Explanation:

You can combine 9 and -8. 9 is positive number and you keep it where it is, then open up the parentheses and move -8 to the right but since you are moving it to the other side you have to change the sign so it would be 9 + 8 which equals 17. You can't combine 5k so you would get your answer.
