A new student enters your classroom. She is very quiet and seems shy. You introduce yourself and she says her name without giving any eye contact. You observe her behavior in your class over the next few weeks. One day, she walks into class wearing a hoodie and clenching her right arm. You assign a written assignment for the day and she has a hard time writing. What steps will you take next? Provide at least 5 sentences stating the steps that will be taken and why.

I believe the first thing to do would be to befriend her. This is because you would need to pick her brain and see the things she may be going through on a day to day. It may be abuse, it may be depression. Self harm can be one of the reasons why she might want to cover up. The first step would be to befriend her, then if having trouble talk to a teacher and get advice.

She may be suffering from child abuse, or some other type of harassment. I'm not sure the steps because I'm not in the same school course you are, but for sure you would need to tell the teacher or some authorities about your concerns.

The reason I think she may be suffering from child abuse is because she held her arm stiffly, it may have been broken. and she wore a hoodie.
