First you start with the side with parenthisis. So you multiply 7xY= 7y and then you multiply 7x3= 21 so you get 7y + 21 = 5y + 8

Second you subtract 8 from both sides.

7y + 21 = 5y +8

-8 = -8

wich leaves you with 7y + 13 = 5y

Next you want to subtract 7y from 5y because you cant have a variable on both sides. 7y + 13 = 5y

-7y + 13 = -7y which will leave you with 13= -2y

Now you divide each number by -2 to get "y" by itself.

13/-2 = -6.5 = y
