these are tricky you have to manipulate the equations to get the x and y by itself and then solve for that

3x+y=3

x+y=2 (multiply this equation by 3) =

3x+3y=6

now subtract the equations

(3x+3y=6) - (3x+y=3) = 2y=3 so y = 3/2 or 1.5

now plug in the y value for one of the equations and solve for x

x + 3/2 = 2

x = 1/2 or 0.5
