Answer:

24 (units)

Explanation:

We can separate the shape into three parts. A triangle on top, rectangle in the middle, and a trapezoid on the bottom. Work out the area of the rectangle first, as it is simplest (l*w=a) (4*2=8). Then figure out the area of the triangle with the formula (b*h/2=a) (4*2/2=4). Lastly, the trapezoid. There are multiple different ways to calculate the area of a trapezoid, but I use this formula...

(l*w) (8*2=16) minus the two triangles cut out from the side (Remember, the formula for a triangle is b*h/2=a. So the triangles would be put together like this: 2*2/2*2, or, put simply, 4.) Put together, it would look like (16-4=12). Simple, really.

Mash all the numbers together (8+4+12=24) and there's your answer!

Answer:

24 units

Explanation:

In this problem, the area of this shape is measured in units.

1 unit = 1 little square

So, lets count all of the full squares. There are 20 of them.

Now lets count all of the half squares. There are 8 half squares.

Now, if we divide 8 over 2, we get 4 full units.

Now we just add up the units: 20 + 4 = 24 units

Hope this helps!
