In this text, Milne reflects on the effect that the end of summer has, and what autumn promises to bring. Milne first gets a strong impression that autumn has begun when he feels the chilly air and sees that leaves are falling from the trees.
He tells us that he is sad to see summer ending, and that he does not want autumn to come yet. However, as the text progresses, Milne changes his mind slowly. He begins to reflect on how autumn brings certain benefits too, and on how summer has to end at some point. Therefore, he ends on a more positive and hopeful note.
I think his point of view is an understandable one. It is very difficult to let go of the things that we truly enjoy. Sometimes, when we have been very happy during a time period, we do not want it to end. However, I like that he is able to remember that nothing lasts forever and that the future can also bring beautiful new things.
